Millstone retriever's training program is structured around each individual hunting retriever. Not all retrievers learn at the same pace, so your dog is trained at it's own pace, not ours. After careful evaluation of each dog, a program is built to bring out the best in each retriever.

Puppy Head Start

This is for retriever pups 18 weeks to 5 months old. This will be an introduction to basic obedience as well as socialization to birds and water. Our goal is to bring out the retrieving instinct at this young age and prepare them for basic gun dog training

Obedience

For the family retriever that you will not hunt with, we offer basic obedience for the following commands: here, heel, sit and down. We teach that the sit command also means to stay until released. We can also customize any training program to include socilization to other factors, introduction to water, etc.

Basic Gun dog Training

Obedience for here, heel, sit, and down. It is very important for the retriever to become very efficient  at these commands. This is the backbone to the working retriever training. We will spend alot of time on these commands. The retriever will be introduced to water and birds. Once the retriever becomes efficient at obedience, we will begin force fetch training, 3 handed casting drills, collar conditioning, force to pile, singe T and double T and water swim-by training. During this period the retriever will get alot of single marks and short doubles.

Advanced Gun dog Training

Transition from yard work to field work. The retriever will be working on pattern blinds, cold blinds and water blinds. The Retriever will also be learning to fight the factors of wind and terrain during this period. We will be working on doubles and triples during this phase of training.

$450 Per Month 

Included in the price of training is boarding and feeding. We provide Eukanuba large breed puppy, Eukanuba large breed adult and Eukanuba Performance Sporting. If your retriever requires a different diet than those listed above, the owner must provide the dog food. It is the owners responsibility to provide Heart worm and flea/tick prevenatives. Live birds are not included in the price of training. Training mallards run around $10 a bird. The first couple of months usually run around $30 a month for birds and $70 when training the advanced hunting retriever.
